Brosaica 3.0 @ CASCO: Night At The Movies 2011

On November 18, 2011, Brosaica had its third performance at the CASCO: A Night at The Movies fundraiser. The dance show fundraiser was held at the Telus Theatre in Montreal, Canada, with all proceeds from ticket sales and raffles going towards the Montreal Children’s Hospital.

Brosaica was founded in 2009 almost by pure accident. One night, a young and beautiful dancer from McGill University’s Mosaica Dance Company discovered a number of Zetes performing in a dance-off at a local club in Montreal. Upon seeing some of the studliest moves including the moonwalk, the fist pump, the percolator and some more fist pumps, she quickly recruited these men to be a part of what would become one of the greatest dance crew’s in Canadian history.

Brosaica 3.0 consisted of Brothers Brian Farnan, Joseph Feldman, Max Gubert, Julian Galiano Celestino, Eddy Drew, Lucas Sawatzky, Steven Curran, Logan Yergens, Michael Szpejda, and Dan Fussman, and their three Mosaica coaches Eric Eloffsen, Natalie Mazzaferro, and Amara Salloum.

In Brosaica’s third performance, the crowd could NOT stop cheering. As opposed to the previous year’s performance, this particular number featured a blend of cheeky theatrics with well-renowned dance moves. Many spectator’s confirmed that Brosaica “stole the show” and had the “best performance.” In addition, their moustaches had their 15 seconds of fame and are now widely recognized on campus as some of the most innovative Movember staches.

The Alpha Psi Chapter was involved in CASCO on many other levels besides Brosaica. Brother Chase Potter and Elder Brother Mehmet Shah MC’ed the evening and kept the audience entertained with their charming moustaches and cunning sense of humour. In addition, actives and elders came to support their brothers and the charity. When including brothers in attendance and the many guests invited by Brosaica, the Alpha Psi chapter alone raised close to $600 in ticket sales.

Special Thanks to Manuella Djuric for the video and Michaela Hirsh for the photo.

Chapter Shows Strong Support for Movember

With less than 10 days remaining in the month of Movember, and some really dirty moustaches growing, we are proud to say that the Alpha Psi chapter has raised over $500 and has made an effort to create as much awareness possible for this men’s health initiative. The chapter has carried out many awareness raising exercises, such as hosting apartment crawl stops for the AUS’s Movember Apartment Crawl, volunteering around campus at multiple ‘awareness stations,’ and has even gone so far as participating in dance shows (to show off the ‘staches), under the alias Brosaica. If you are interested in supporting the cause, a Donation towards our team would be much appreciated!

Commemoration Dinner 2011

Alas, another Commemoration Dinner has come and gone, and thus, another pledge class has been initiated.

However, this Commemoration Dinner was different than all the rest. With much fanfare and hype from the active chapter, it became the most highly attended Commemoration Dinner by both actives and elders since the chapters re-activation in 1979, with over 90 brothers enjoying each other’s company. This does not really come as a surprise as this result has become expected by the Alpha Psi chapter and is reflective of the past two years where we have steadily been gaining momentum.

Held at the Black Watch, brothers enjoyed a fine meal, and even finer wine. Newly-initiated Brother Gabe Katzen flawlessly recited “In Flanders Fields” by Brother Lieutenant-Colonel Dr. John Alexander Mcrae. As well, Brothers Celestino and Curran gave an admirable presentation on WWI and WWII Zete heroes, Henry Brydges Yates and James Campbell Clouston. Their research will be dutifully added to our archives.

After dinner, Actives and Elders alike walked across the street to the prestigious Montreal Rackets Club for the after-party. In classic Zete fashion, there were women, champagne, poker and craps tables, and cigars waiting for our arrival. Getting the party started was Alpha Psi’s very own DJ trio—the GSE—playing a classic selection of bumping dance floor tunes.

The active chapter would like to extend a very special thank you to all the Elders who came out November 12 (some coming from as far as Vancouver, Oklahoma City, and even Singapore). It truly was a very memorable evening.

Congratulations to the Newly Initiated Beta Beta Class

After having an incredible turnout from rush, the current brothers were able to hand-select a group of 18 quality individuals. The latest brothers initiated into the Alpha Psi Chapter of the Zeta Psi Fraternity of North America are the following:

  1. Michael Consalvo
  2. Andrei Dan
  3. Charles-Edouard Desmarais
  4. Sebastian Dragnea
  5. Sean Finnell
  6. Igor Fornes
  7. Kyle Gardner

  13. Richard Minzberg
  14. Nathan Mooney
  15. Alexander Rohrbach
  16. Daniel Scott

Again, congratulations to the Beta Beta class; the largest Alpha Psi has seen since its reactivation in 1979. TKΦ

Great Participation at Hype Week 2011

From November 7th to 11th, over 30 Alpha Psi Active Brothers, 2 Elder Brothers and 18 Pledges partook in the competitive debacle they call Hype Week 2011. With Brother J.P. Briggs co-chairing the event, and with active brothers captaining the top 3 ranked teams (and with pledges captaining the most spirited team), Hype Week 2011 (a prelude to Carnival) was able to raise over $750 for the Canadian Cancer Society. A big thanks to Brother Briggs, as he did a magnificent job as co-chair! As well, a huge thanks to Brothers Chase Potter and Ricky Muller-Moran, who were also right there behind Brother Briggs on committee. We look forward to a bigger and better Carnival 2012, where we hope to raise over $10,000 for the Canadian Cancer Society.

Commemoration Dinner Reminder

Please be reminded that this Saturday, November 12, Alpha Psi will be holding our annual Commemoration Dinner. This is our most treasured event of the year, and if all goes according to plan, this year will be one of the most highly attended Commemoration Dinners in recent memory. Come and remember our fallen brothers with your fellow Elders and Actives at the Blackwatch at 2067 Bleury Street.

Hope to see you there!
