Congratulations to the Newly Initiated Beta Gamma Class

We are proud to announce that the chapter has hit over 60 active brothers, and it is safe to say that there was no quality forgone, as is clearly exhibited with the 8 newly initiated brothers. West Down the 401, Again

This past weekend, Elder Brother Clancy and Brothers Mead, Duffy Fagan, and Hopkins-Hill had the pleasure of spending a night on the town with the Theta Psi chapter at Queens University in Kingston, Ontario. Great fun was had by all as an entire day’s worth of fun was packed into a few short hours. The following afternoon, the destination was Brock University in St. Catharines, Ontario and the Theta Eta chapter. Friday evening was again a true Zeta Psi event as brothers came out in force to make sure we saw the best that the Niagara region had to offer. While the actives recovered on Saturday, Elder Brother Clancy journeyed to London, Ontario to further aid the reactivation of the Theta Phi chapter. Upon his return to St. Catharines, the party was already in full swing and all the Alpha Psi brothers were enjoying themselves immensely. Everyone who made this trek would like to thank both Theta Psi and Theta Eta for so graciously opening their doors and treating us to such a wonderful weekend. We await the opportunity to reciprocate the favour!

Alpha Psi Journeys to Kingston and London

This past weekend Brothers Feldman, Hare, Tsangaris, Tucci, and Elder Brother Clancy, voyaged west to Kingston and London Ontario, to visit the Theta Psi Chapter at Queens University and aid in the rush process needed for the re-initiation of the Theta Phi Chapter at the University of Western Ontario. At Queens, Theta Psi showed great hospitality, opening their doors to their Alpha Psi brothers. It is an exciting time for Theta Psi, as the chapter has evolved markedly over the past two years and exhibits significant potential as a great example as a future powerhouse Canadian chapter. On the same note, Theta Phi opened their doors to our brothers, and showed us a good time in London. A special thanks to pledge Dani Weryha, who has been wearing his pledge pin for two years! The Theta Phi chapter is on their way to becoming an active chapter, and Alpha Psi is proud to be part of the reestablishment of the chapter. We would like to thank both Theta Psi and Theta Phi for their hospitality, and look forward to hosting them in Montreal for LTIs!

Commemoration Dinner 2011

Alas, another Commemoration Dinner has come and gone, and thus, another pledge class has been initiated.

However, this Commemoration Dinner was different than all the rest. With much fanfare and hype from the active chapter, it became the most highly attended Commemoration Dinner by both actives and elders since the chapters re-activation in 1979, with over 90 brothers enjoying each other’s company. This does not really come as a surprise as this result has become expected by the Alpha Psi chapter and is reflective of the past two years where we have steadily been gaining momentum.

Held at the Black Watch, brothers enjoyed a fine meal, and even finer wine. Newly-initiated Brother Gabe Katzen flawlessly recited “In Flanders Fields” by Brother Lieutenant-Colonel Dr. John Alexander Mcrae. As well, Brothers Celestino and Curran gave an admirable presentation on WWI and WWII Zete heroes, Henry Brydges Yates and James Campbell Clouston. Their research will be dutifully added to our archives.

After dinner, Actives and Elders alike walked across the street to the prestigious Montreal Rackets Club for the after-party. In classic Zete fashion, there were women, champagne, poker and craps tables, and cigars waiting for our arrival. Getting the party started was Alpha Psi’s very own DJ trio—the GSE—playing a classic selection of bumping dance floor tunes.

The active chapter would like to extend a very special thank you to all the Elders who came out November 12 (some coming from as far as Vancouver, Oklahoma City, and even Singapore). It truly was a very memorable evening.

Congratulations to the Newly Initiated Beta Beta Class

After having an incredible turnout from rush, the current brothers were able to hand-select a group of 18 quality individuals. The latest brothers initiated into the Alpha Psi Chapter of the Zeta Psi Fraternity of North America are the following:

  3. Charles-Edouard Desmarais
  4. Sebastian Dragnea
  5. Sean Finnell

  9. John Hopkins-Hill

  13. Richard Minzberg
  14. Nathan Mooney
  15. Alexander Rohrbach

Terry Fox Run 2011

On Sunday, September 18, 2011, the Scarlet Key Honour Society of McGill University participated in the annual Terry Fox Run in Montreal, Quebec, Canada.

Elder Zete Brother and Scarlet Key Honour Society member Nick Drew invited the actives and Fall rushes of the Alpha Psi chapter to join the cause. The race took place at the top of Mount Royal and was an event enjoyed by all. With 10 Brothers (and one rush) making the early 9:30 meeting time, those who weren’t in attendance happily donated money to this great cause. Among all the brothers running, Brother Emerson Shiu and Brian Farnan started the 5k race in last place and finished in first and second place, in that order, respectively. As well, Brother Max Gubert managed to finish the 10km race in a very impressive time!

Collective donations totalled over $350 between actives, rushes and parental fundraising. This is the first time Alpha Psi has participated in the Terry Fox Run. The philanthropy committee has now pledged to participate in the run every year. The Alpha Psi Chapter ran under the Scarlet Key Honour Society, however it aims to have its own team next year.

At the end of the run, all friends, parents and fellow students got together and enjoyed some time in the sun. It was truly a great day among friends and family.

This is the first Philanthropy event of the Fall semester for the Alpha Psi chapter. Be sure to look out for the boys participating in the Right-to-Play Spin-a-Thon as well as the return of Brosaica at this year’s CASCO event.

Elder vs Active Softball 2011

McGill/Concordia University

As it has been Alpha Psi tradition for many years, the elders challenged the active chapter to a game of softball this past Saturday (September 17th). The typical outcome of these softball games is a bitter spanking and a painstaking loss for the actives.

However, this year was a little different. Not only was the turnout one of the biggest in our chapter’s history, but the actives also “tied” (we use this term very loosely) the game up in the 10th inning, snapping the elders 15 year winning streak (maybe even longer).

As usual, we ended our rendezvous with a barbecue at Elder Brother Gillan’s house. Thanks to everyone who made it to the game, as it was one of the best Elder vs Active Softball games we have had in a long time. We look forward to seeing everyone next year!

Second Annual Zete Patrick’s Day a Success!

The sun was shining, birds were chirping, and leprechauns everywhere were rejoicing as we celebrated our Second Annual Zete Patrick’s Day. Presented by Elder Brother Brock Clancy, we awoke in the early hours of the morning to embark on the journey to Peel Pub. Overwhelming the staff of the establishment, who for some reason were not celebrating the holiday, we arrived in strong numbers and claimed our position in the VIP section.

Starting off with large portions of eggs, potatoes, and delicious green fluids, the event was a huge success. A mix of new brothers, older brothers, and rushes discussed politics, literature, and the intricacies of Latin and Greek (POSSIBLE FABRICATION). As the morning rolled into afternoon, we decided to partake in a round of golf. Unfortunately our reservation at the Royal Montreal Golf Club fell through, but luckily the kind people at Peel allowed us extend our stay for a quick 9 holes. The foursome led by Brother Farnan showed off their well practiced strokes and won the short tournament, while Brothers Feldman and DiGiulian surprised the field by not finishing at the bottom.

After an intellectually stimulating morning, we retired to the Chapter House to engage in some relaxation before another evening on the town. A perfect end to another Zeta Psi event.

Zete Patrick’s Day

Interested in Rushing Zeta Psi?

The Second Annual Zete Patrick’s Day is taking place tomorrow, September 10th at Peel Pub at 10am. It will be a great opportunity to meet a bunch of the active brothers, as well as a couple elders. The day will begin with a Peel Pub Breakfast (oohhh, soo goood!!) at 10am sharp. Afterwards, attendees will have the opportunity to participate in the Inaugural Zeta Psi Pub Golf tournament (on Crescent). After a round of pub golf, we plan on retiring to the chapter house to close the day off with a beer pong tournament!

See you all there!

Interested in Rushing Zeta Psi?

The Alpha Psi Chapter of the Zeta Psi fraternity brings a new meaning to the concept of a fraternity. With their innovative ideas and campus leadership, Zetes help to enrich the University lives of not just active brothers, but for all of the student body.

With most of the actives being highly decorated academics, campus leaders, and varsity athletes, the Alpha Psi chapter is a force to be reckoned with on campus. We’re not too hard to spot, just look out for us wearing our letters at places like BDP on Tuesday nights, or even at 4a7 in the Bronfman basement.

If you have any questions related to Rush, or the fraternity in general, please e-mail us at alphapsi.zetapsi@gmail.com
